Art Writer in Barcelona

Curatorial, catalog and artist texts in Spanish and English, written by an art historian who can see the work in person.

Most galleries in Barcelona write for two audiences at once: the visitor who walks in from the street during an opening and reads the wall in Spanish, and the collector in New York or London who sees the show online and reads it in English. I write curatorial statements, catalog essays, press releases and artist texts for both, from Barcelona, as an art historian who spent seven years on artwork attribution for an auction house and edited ART UKRAINE before moving to Spain.

Being in the same city changes the work more than people expect, because I can see the pieces in the studio or on the gallery wall before I write a word about them, talk to the artist in person rather than through a questionnaire, and deliver the Spanish and English versions together, so that the curatorial idea does not drift between languages the way it does when a second translator reinterprets it.

What I Write for Galleries, Artists and Collectors

Before a Fair

The busiest weeks for gallery texts in Spain follow the fair calendar, with ARCOmadrid and Art Madrid in February and Swab and Loop in Barcelona later in the year. Booth texts, artist bios and press materials are usually needed four to six weeks before a fair opens, and if you write to me that far ahead there is time to see the work, draft, and revise without anyone rushing. If you are already inside that window, write anyway.

How It Works

  1. Tell me about the show or the work. Use the form below or book a short call. Images, a concept if you have one, and the opening date are enough to start.
  2. Get a proposal within 48 hours. Scope, timeline and a final price, with no obligation.
  3. Visit, write, revise. In Barcelona I see the work in person where it helps, then deliver the text in Spanish, English or both, with revisions included as set out in the proposal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you meet in person?

Yes. In Barcelona I can visit the gallery or the studio to see the work before writing about it, which for a curatorial text or a catalog essay usually makes the writing sharper. Outside Barcelona everything runs by email and video call.

Do you only work with galleries in Barcelona?

No. Many of my clients are outside Spain, in Kyiv, Miami, Antwerp and Denmark among others, and that work runs remotely. This page is for galleries, artists and collectors who would rather work with a writer in the same city.

Which languages do you write in?

Spanish and English for every text, delivered together and written by the same person, and Ukrainian and Russian when a project needs them.

Contact

Tell me about the exhibition or the work. I reply within 24 hours.

Opening in less than three weeks? Write anyway and say so in the first line. Tight deadlines are normal in this work.
